“You are what you eat”, what about the other senses?

Our senses govern our interactions and associations with the world.
Just how far does control over our senses go? Furthermore, how much does what these senses interact with, affect the human alchemy?

“You are what you eat”
You may have heard this quote from many teachers and influencers, it is in fact very true. In Ayurvedic beliefs, the foods we ingest reflects in our behavior, mental wellbeing and physical health.

The taste of food is more than a mere pleasurable experience for the tongue, how we taste food and what we taste affects our thoughts and in turn our reactions.

In Ayurveda, eating good foods that are well balanced and combining foods wisely along with mannerisms such as eating at certain times and so on, form the idea of ‘spritualizing eating’. This all boils down to how you react based upon the way your body reacts to food; a balanced mind, body and soul assists your spiritual experience.

It sounds like a salad piled up with no flavour however this is not the case, Ayurvedic eating also prompts us to enjoy food, the taste of something good makes the mind feel good. Remember, no one’s here to gatekeep eating; how you choose to experience the pleasures of the tongue is always up to you. Eat what feels right. which reminds me of the next sense we are going to touch on…..Touch!

Just by a touch, our brain can interpret so much. Just by a touch, our hearts can feel so much. Touch is one the senses that helps us literally get a hold onto reality.
With touch, we can feel pleasure, pain, fear, happiness, empathy and so much more. It is the sense that physically connects us to our surroundings.

Using our touch to heal? we can use our hands to transfer energy; hence, we should value our sense of touch as one of our key healing mediums. Touch can be a medium we use to share energy between the external and internal parts of ourselves.
You may be familiar with Reiki, some Reiki practices use touch to balance energies, it is a form of healing someone by
transferring universal energy to a person. In order to understand our body or someone else’s state of being, touch is sometimes a very reliable sense.
Touch what feels right. Touch the trees, touch the ground; these moments make up our energy, you are what you touch too.
So, are you starting to see the bigger picture, shall we move onto sight.

We can perceive it all, at just one glance.
A sense we depend on the most when gaining an understanding of our surroundings is sight. This sense connects thoughts and reality.
Like mirrors, our eyes reflect the world. Our actions are these reflections.
We become what we see, we change what we see, we create what we dont see.

When you look into the mirror, see the person you want to become, say: “I love what I am looking at.”, “I am successful”, “I am fearless”.
What you see yourself to be is who you become.
Watch the sun set and feel its warmth, look up to the night sky and feel the magic, see the wrong too…
At certain points in our lives, we have to open our eyes to the scary things too. Good and bad coexist with each other.
Listen carefully, we’re tuning into sound.

Through vibrations we perceive sound, some of you are aware of the notion that “everything vibrates”.
Sound is a sense used to tune into the vibrations of your surroundings.
Sound connects our basic life systems, the connection of different forms with different frequencies make up the skeletal structure of our world. The sound of the wind can tell us about the weather, the sound of a baby crying can tell us if it is hungry.
Should we only listen to birds chirping and Angel’s singing?
Life was never meant to be perfect, part of growing is allowing our senses to dwell into the darkness too. Hearing the cries of the suppressed and the screams of pain builds character, these sounds build up an armour, these sounds can also build a weapon, so be careful with how far deep you allow your sense of hearing to dwell.

Music and sound are therapeutic, mainly because of its fantastic ability to alter the frequency you are vibrating on. Tuning into these frequencies, allows them to shift your mindset, allowing you to be attuned to that frequency; you are what you hear.
Okay, let’s sniff out the last sense, onto smell.

Aromas and scents diffuse into our thoughts, changing the way we feel.
Smell is one of the senses that can change your mood at an instant.
To raise our mood, to raise our vibrations; you may be familiar with lighting incense or scented candles. The aromas of herbs, spices and flowers aid with managing our emotions and mindset.
A smell can take you back to a memory, a smell can create a new memory, a smell can help destroy a memory you do not need anymore.

Take a whiff of nature, sniff some lavender; your aura will change. Something in your emotions shift, you’ve become engulfed in the scents of what you are smelling. In that moment; you are what you smell.

Our senses are a network, they work in harmony so that we can perceive the world, this means that we can attune our senses to broaden our perception of things in the world and beyond. You are what you sense. Which is why I believe we all may be capable of being clairvoyant…
In my personal opinion, what sets apart the ‘normal’ from the ‘gifted’ is that a ‘gifted’ person uses their senses to a much higher capacity than usual. This heightens the brains response, due to the over juiced sensory responses received. Paired with belief and intuition, these could develop clairvoyant abilities; this could be the case for you but there still are external factors to consider as well, some of which go many lifetimes back but that’s a story for another day.

If you’ve lost a sense, are you any less?
Absolutely not! Even with a few missing, the ones you have are much more stronger than it normally would be; you’ve already gained a heightened sense, this enables you to get a grip onto the idea of spritualizing your senses.

Spritualizing your senses breaks the boundaries you have with this world and even the ones you can’t see, it suggests we experience the little and big things your senses interact with as a part of your spiritual journey.

I could go on further and tell you how to enhance your senses but what’s the fun in that?
This journey is all yours, we are all different and want to experience and perceive this world differently. So, I hope that you embrace your senses with a little more importance.
Remember, your senses are more than just receptors; they are creators, healers and transformers too.

Take Care ♡
