A song of support – How the BTS ARMY are healing the world.

“A song to heal”, “A song that resolves all inner conflict.”, these words often describe a BTS song. For the past seven years, BTS, under their label Bighit Entertainment have crossed boundaries with their astounding music, talent and artistry. Their concepts dwell into topics relevant to today’s society and how its built around its youth.

Even more incredible than themselves are their fans, the BTS ARMY.
Their fans manifest their songs into reality by spreading BTS’s message and purpose, furthermore, they stand as advocates for youth all around the world. Their support for BTS is genuine and heartwarming, this reflects in the many accomplishments BTS has achieved.

Throughout the years, most fans have been inspired to celebrate the members birthdays in a very unique way, this involves participating in some sort of charitable activity; these range from helping humans to helping animals and even the earth. These ‘gifts’ to the members are an all – encompassing act of giving.

Last month, a particular project dedicated to SUGA on his birthday, caught our attention and had us participating in it as well.
The project focused on mental health awareness; #SugasHealingLab is a simple yet impactful approach to spreading awareness on mental health.

The project was created by two fanbases, BangtanmoonlightSA and the Army help centre.
Here’s a little more from these two fanbases:

“BTS are the roots of the ARMY tree that feeds on love, acceptance and respect for self and others. Not only they have supported individuality, but they’ve also successfully created a family-like structure, threading individuals from all walks of life together.

This being said, the rise of mental health issues along with the social stigma that surrounds it brought Army Help Centre into existence. Founded two years ago, AHC aims at providing continuous mental support to the ARMY tree. The AHC team includes – but is not limited to -mental health professionals, such as psychologists and psychology students, who try their best to provide a listening ear to anyone who needs to be heard.

Being active advocates of a stigma-free environment, AHC provides services through its 16 branch accounts in many different languages (such as English, Korean, Russian, Tagalog, Chinese, Japanese to name a few) in order to cater to ARMY on a global scale. The smooth running of the organization is ensured by volunteers around the world working in shifts around the clock.

Within the last two years, AHC has successfully provided a safe haven to thousands of ARMY and few non-ARMY. Dealing with issues ranging from daily conflicts to serious mental health conditions, the AHC team handles the situations at hand without interfering with professional help and rather encourages seeking help from a healthcare professional whenever possible.

On top of the daily reminders, positive self-help quotes and interactions with ARMY, AHC is dedicated to create and implement awareness regarding mental illness and its respective forms of treatment.

Awareness projects are initiated almost monthly with some of its most recent campaigns addressing self-harm, stress management, creativity and so on. AHC has also had the honor to work with Dr. Murray Stein, author of Map of the Soul, and Ms. Laura London, a Jungian analyst, on its two most major projects based on BTS’s latest two albums, “Map Of The Soul: Persona” and “Map Of The Soul: 7” respectively, which shed light on Jungian psychology in a brief but enlightening manner.

Furthermore, AHC has had the pleasure to partner with Crisis Text Line in order to help UK, US, and Canadian ARMY facing hardships to reach out via text to seek solace.

In summary, AHC is working non-stop to make ARMY’s voices heard and their mental health acknowledged and comforted, all while putting an end to any stigma that is still lurking and affecting people’s overall well-being.”

“BangtanmoonlightSA is a BTS charity project Fanbase from South Africa! Our page started back in March 2019 and have done quite a few projects for BTS thus far which includes homemade goodies, donations made to various organizations for some of the members birthdays, a Plant a tree campaign and now our recent collaborative project with the Army Help Centre. From what started off as a normal fanpage to , we quickly realised where our passion lies and so BangtanmoonlightSA, the charity project Fanbase was created. We’ve had a sense of giving and helping instilled in us from a very young age. Run by three sisters, spreading our love for BTS through our projects,We hope to grow and continue to spread our moonlight.”

#SugasHealingLab inspired fans to spread their words of support on social media using the hashtag, #SugasHealingLab. This was done in the Hope’s of providing support to other fans who may be facing mental health challenges. They also included ‘thought provoking questions’ which prompted fans to voice their opinions on topics that outline mental health issues in today’s society.

Purple Empaths are proud to have participated in such a unique yet necessary project, we also extend our gratitude to the guest writers who participated and expressed themselves in the efforts to highlight mental health struggles and awareness.
